Womble Bond Dickinson Partner Jed Nosal recently attended the International Masters of Gaming Law Autumn Conference in Lisbon, Portugal, where he participated in a panel discussion on litigation and enforcement actions involving sports betting and iGaming. Partner Jason Hicks also represented Womble at the event.

At the International Masters of Gaming Law Autumn Conference, industry leaders discussed the high stakes lawsuits which are threatening the regulatory underpinnings of the U.S. iGaming and sports betting market place. Nearly a dozen state and federal lawsuits place key operating platforms, gaming regulators and politically connected, well financed upstarts at odds with the winners redefining how the marketplace will be divided and whether long standing regulatory structures will apply to the fast growing industries.

Nosal’s remarks focused on the recent litigation involving predictive markets by various states including Massachusetts alleging that such federally CFTC regulated trading is illegal sports betting under state law.

Joining Nosal in the discussion were John Maloney, Owner/Attorney, The Law Offices of John K. Maloney; Joseph Webster, Managing Partner, Hobbs, Straus, Dean & Walker; and Marc Ellinger,  Founding Partner, Ellinger Bell. Jones Walker Partner Marc Dunbar moderated the discussion.
